RADAR is het bureau voor gelijke behandeling en tegen discriminatie werkzaam in de regio's Rotterdam-Rijnmond, Midden- en West-Brabant en Zuid-Holland-Zuid.
RADAR toetst en bewaakt de handhaving van artikel 1 van de Grondwet. Dit wetsartikel garandeert het recht op gelijke behandeling en verbiedt discriminatie. Voor de betreffende regio's is RADAR de instelling op het gebied van gelijke behandeling: vraagbaak, waakhond, databank, kennisinstelling en lobbyist voor gelijke behandeling en tegen discriminatie.
De meest voorkomende vormen zijn discriminatie op grond van huidkleur/afkomst, geslacht, seksuele gerichtheid, geloofs-/levensovertuiging, leeftijd en handicap. RADAR opereert in het gebied tussen de norm en de weerbarstige praktijk. In de praktijk kan namelijk iedereen tegen discriminatie aanlopen. Iedereen behoort immers in een bepaalde situatie weleens tot een minderheid. In die zin heeft iedereen belang bij voorkoming en bestrijding van discriminatie en uitsluiting.
RADAR ontplooit diverse activiteiten om gelijke behandeling te bevorderen en discriminatie tegen te gaan:
• Advies en ondersteuning bij klachten en meldingen van discriminatie
• Registratie en monitoring van klachten en meldingen
• Onderzoek, analyse en rapportage
• Beleidsbeinvloeding en advisering van instellingen en organisaties
• Deskundigheidsbevordering en training
• Voorlichting en publieksbeinvloeding.

RADAR was founded in Rotterdam in 1983 as one of the first local anti-discrimination agencies in the Netherlands.
Our mission
RADAR combats all kinds of discrimination. Our main focus is race, colour, ethnic origins, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age and handicap.
What is discrimination?
Discrimination occurs when a person is treated differently from another person in the same or similar circumstances. Article 1 of the Dutch Constitution states the inalienable right:
“All people in the Netherlands will be treated equally in equal cases. Discrimination on grounds of religion, philosophy of life, political persuasion, race, gender or whatever basis is not allowed”.
What do we do:
We support complaints of discrimination. We provide advice and support to people who file complaints about discrimination. RADAR, if requested, will assist victims of discrimination in contacting the relevant authority responsible for investigating and addressing the complaint, like the police and the Commission for Equal Treatment.
We monitor discrimination cases. Incidents are compiled into annual reports and presentations, which identifies key issues -arising from the data gathered - and recommendations.
We do research regarding structural forms of discrimination, particularly in the fields of the labour market, education, housing, police and justice.
We provide advice and assistance to government, non-government and profit organisations to enable them to implement anti-discrimination and intercultural strategies
We provide anti-discrimination awareness training for different groups like school children, police officers, etc….
We stimulate information and public awareness through the coordination of events like the International Day Against Racism (March 21st), Day of Dialogue and through publication of a range of materials and resources.
